Starting a business these days is easier then ever. More and more people are starting to work for them selfs. As an entrepreneur myself I am a big fan of this. But sadly most people give up at some point and a lot of businesses fail within the first year. In my opinion this has a lot to do with your mindset. That why I made a list of 4 things you should do before starting your own business.
1. Start reading books
All things in this list are about changing your mindset or changing the way you think. A simple but great way to do this is to start reading books about entrepreneurship, spirituality, mindset, personal development and business. This way you basically will learn how successful people think and how they view the world.
You have probably heard the statement that you become the average of the 5 people you hang out with. This means you copy the behavior of the people you spend the most time with. So if you hang out with a lot of negative minded people you will start thinking negatively yourself. Now when you are just starting out it can be very hard to find 5 successful people who want to spend time with you.
So a good alternative is to read books about those successful people to really get into their mind and learn from them.
2. Start meditating
If you have watched some of my video’s about discipline you probably know that I am a big fan of meditation myself. I really believe this has helped me a lot in my own success and I really suggest everyone to get into this. What meditation basically does is that it helps you to take control over your thoughts and emotions and helps you understand why you think the things that you are thinking.
In business meditation helps you a lot with dealing with the stress that comes from running a business and also with staying focused and being more disciplined.
3. Start visualizing
Let me tell you about the law of attraction. Maybe you are already familiar with this, but what it basically means is that you attract the things in your live that you send out (ex. thinking about something).
If you think in a negative way a lot that will be projected on your own life and vice versa. Of course it is just a theory and it can’t be scientifically proven but that is not the point here. Tons of successful people visualized their success long before they got there.
Before you start visualizing it is importent to have a clear picture of what you want to accomplish in your life. So write down a list of things you want to achieve and don’t be afraid to dream big.
Now let me tell you how I do my visualization…
Personally I do it at the end of my meditation mainly, but you can do this at any time of the day. So what I do is that I take a specific goal that I want to reach within a specific timeframe and I imagine I am already there. I imagine it is the date of which I want this to be accomplished and I tell myself I already completed the goal.
Really try to experience how it feels to accomplish that goal. Think about you feel emotionally, what you see, what you smell. Try to make it as vivid as possible. In your mind it already happened and the only thing between you and this goal is time. The goal is to truly believe you can accomplish that goal.
This visualization doesn’t need to take more than a couple of minutes. You can do it whenever you want. When you are traveling, sitting in a bus or when having a break. Try to do this as many times in a day as possible.
4. Start finding someone who is already there.
The final thing I want to give you is to find someone who is already doing what you want to do. Someone who had already accomplished the goals that you want to accomplish. This can be in the form of a personal mentor, a coach or someone with a course of what you want to do.
Don’t try to reinvent the wheel and don’t be afraid to spend money on this. It is better to invest in yourself first then to try and do it yourself and eventually spending more money on mistakes you make.
If you find someone who wants you to teach the things you need to learn to accomplish your goals, you don’t have to make the mistakes they made when they first started. This way you are able to create a shortcut for yourself and achieve your goals a lot faster.
